Got into my 2000 ML320 this morning and it started no problem. Drove it about 20 minutes and parked it for about 5 hours. When I came back, I hit the remote unlock and opened the door. The dash display lit up as it usually does (odometer, outside temp, etc), but when I went to start it nothing happened. No dash lights, no starter engage, nothing. I tried again and nothing happened. I popped the hood to see if someone had messed with the car (it was in a parking lot), and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I got back in the car, turned it to the first position, and my display read "enter security code". I pressed my disarm button on my remote and the solenoids hit the locks again, and it then started. Any ideas? A few weeks ago my ESP light came on for a few minutes but hasn't been on since.
Battery is one possiblity, but it could also be bindings in the starter
Bindings in the starting motor (112-151-00-01-88) got me stranded with my less then 2 y.o. ML! On the bright side, I got to meet my friends in the service dept for our monthly visit.
Now, bindings in the starter are not necessarily a defect. It used to be caused by people staying on the starter while the engine had already been started for a short while. Needless to say I do nothing of the sort, and that's a first for me in over a couple of decades...
