Calling all Mod enthusiasts ,New idea for mod! Log in too Drew.

The idea is, how to modify the double back seat so that it can be two independent seats. Now the seats should be able to fold down and lock into place separately. This means that the middle seat will be able to fold down flat to the floor while the left seat is in seating position. If this is able to be done, the middle seat should be able to be removed.
The first thought that I give to this idea is to use two seats like the seat that fold on the right side that allow passengers to access the third row seat.[8)] I will inspect the ML and see what can be done. One thing to think about is seat belt attachments. Second thing is the pull to fold the seat will have to be reversed.
Come in mod enthusiasts and assist with this thought. I have more ideas on this subject.

Could try to retrofit a '98 rear seat to a newer model. Color match may be tough but at least the seats wouldn't be custom.

A '98 rear sear has a common seat cushion for left and middle. Its one piece. How can you separate it?

Can I add to the mod? Get the rear seats to recline!

I was actually thinking of this at the gas station tonight. Wow is this weird.

Here's my thought. Transform the rear passenger area even futher. Rip the rear seats out completely and fit two new captains chairs with new welded floor mounts. They would recline and adjust eelectrically. The seatbelts could line up for std use. Th center area formerly used for the "5th" passenger could be used for a custome consol for PS2/DVD center in conjunction with headrest screens in the front seats.

Yes the seats would not fold flat. I realize that. But travel would be more comfy and entertaining for the munchkins and adults alike.

I like the idea, but that would turn my 7 seater into a 6 seater. However, in the center console you could install pullout trays like the trays in the exit row seat so the kids could color. [:)]
