I recently noticed that the driver side passenger door gets stuck while opening. It eventually opens, and subsequent openings are normal. But after a few hours, the door opens a bit, then there's resistance, but after some additional force, it opens again.
Has this happened to anyone? Is it a case of applying some WD40? Will take it to the dealer when I get a chance but am wondering if this has happened to anyone else.

Sounds like it needs some lubrication.

Look at the big rubber molding (weather molding) that goes around the door opening. Especially at the section by the rear seats below the door lock/catch mechanism. Sometimes that part of the moldling come out from the groove and grab the door.
If that is the case, obvious answer is push it back in and if that is difficult, you can use putty knife (or something flat like CC) to guide the rubber molding. You may have to loosen the inside/trunk plastic panels by the door.

my wife told me today that she can't even open the door now. She had someone else who is stronger try to open the door and he was not able to open the door either - it was unlocked off course.
any thoughts as to what caused the door to get stuck?
have the dealer check it, its a warranty issue. I know to drop it off and have a loanner is a pain[:(]

Irrelevant! If the door is unstuck while not opening it, don't open it and voila!

It is not the molding - it is still in tact. The inside panel has come lose however. There are these white nylon screws that hold the inside panel to the door. These have broken and have come off.
So am taking it to the dealer to get it fixed. I have a feeling that they did not put it together properly after replacing the crappy rubber gasket around the windows.
On a side note, I jut realized how easy it is to remove the inside door panel.
While a few clips were broken, the real problem was the fastners the clips go into. They are hot-glued to the inside of the door panel. So, we "re-hot-glued" them back!
Did you notice how cheaply-made the (inside of the)door panel is?
