ML Texas Valdez..!! My garage eco-system is going to take decades to recover...!!

ML Texas Valdez..!! My garage eco-system is going to take decades to recover...!!

After a catastrophic engineering mistake on my part, my garage echo system has been drastically affected for many years and buyers to come.. That is, all field mice (from a close forest), insects, spiders, and other unknown beings, ET's included, living in my garage... will most likely get extinct on the next couple of weeks..
I think I should even cancel my Terminex appointment.. since all pests should be well under control now... [:)]

I myself look like one of those Alaskan birds covered with black oil.. [xx(]

I was changing the oil on my ML and had everything but a top sider to syphon the oil out.. Well, I designed this device that should had allow me for a nice clean drain of the oil from below my ML..

But disaster occurred, the oil flow from my ML was greater than what my device designed input flow and next thing I know my head, chest, and all around me got totally splashed with oil..!! What a mess..!!! It is taking me hours to clean my garage floor and am about to take a shower/bath to rinse all the oil out of me.. (luckyly (or maybe not..) my cloths, face, and hair absorved a couple of quarts...!!)

Well.. after cleaning my ML, my engine is purring right now..

On a side note, I noticed that my old ML filter was very different in shape than the new one.. The old part number is:

A 112 184 04 25

while the new one is A 112 184 05 25 and it was made in Austria...

Anybody has their filter part number handy to share with me..? I wonder when they changed the filter shapes and part numbers...

Regards..

AC

Hair is an excellent oil absorber. In fact they use it to clean up oil spills/

If the filters are different shapes, that would worry me.[:0]

I was doing some research on the two type of oil filters and it seems that there is a new more efficient filter 000 180 26 09. Below is a link and a description of the filter which is exactly like the one I got..

Quoting the link below: "Optional with 000 180 23 09. Due to increased maintenance intervals, this filter comes equipped with an advanced filter media that allows the increase of service intervals with better filter efficiency, especially when using synthetic oils."

http://www2.autopartsauthority.com/parts/autopartsauthority/wizard.jsp?year=1999&make=MB&model=ML-320-001&category=A&&part=Oil+Filter+Kit

Attached is a file showing my old oil filter which has some ridges at the ends. My new filter does not have those edges at the end.

When I bought the oil filter at my dealer parts department, it gave me the orangy one shown above.. But at the last oil service at the dealer (since this is the first time I am changing the filter by myself) the dealer seems to have been installing the other type of filters shown in the attached image..

Anybody familiar with that type of oil filter..? Does anybody know what was the shape of the first ever oil filter that came with their brand new ML's..?

AC
