RE: It's the greatest site, especially for discrete codes.
I only had one TOAD - my Yamaha DVD player! I just programmed around it.

... The guys at remote central are phenomenal, all I had to do was read and voila!
Yup! There was one guy who had created a Pronto file for my Yamaha A/V amp that wasn't in the "Files" section that was incredible - all sound stage presets, everything! - and happily emailed it to me! Saved me tons of time!

will a plasma monitor run off a digital cable box, or do I need s separate tuner to convert non-digital stations for viewing?
You WOULD need a tuner to get OTA (Off The Air - ATSC format) channels since monitors are just that, monitors, and do not have tuners.
However, a plasma monitor will display anything that comes off your digital cable box (get a sat subscription when you can), make sure you select the best set of outputs to maximize the quality of your picture.
Similarly, you would be OK with a sat receiver, and if you had local channels in your sat subscription, you'd only be mad when the atmospheric conditions are deplorable, in which case you'd like a tuner to view OTA channels.
If I were you, I'd trash cable and would get a sat subscription with a HD TiVo. The first such units (30 hours) are coming out this month (shipping 3/1 but don't expect to see them in retail stores for a while, the preorders are stupendous)
The great thing is that this box has 4 (FOUR) tuners and that allows you to tape multiple programs while watching another. In addition, the unit records HD and SD from both the sat and OTA.

I have been thinking of getting the DLP or LCD HD with ATSC and DVD with VCR that records in HD and SD from the SAT and OTA from QVC but not until my horse comes in at OTB [:D]
Sat TV reception bites in my area. I had both Direct TV and Dish Network, and signal cut out nearly every rain storm.
I am ordering a 42 inch plasma monitor on Monday through Live Wire in Canonsburg. I purchased a TIVO-like DVD+R/RW w/ 80gig HD for Christmas (still in the box). I plan to combine that with the PS2 and VHS. Going tot he Bose outlet store in Grove City next week to look for cubes, etc...
Not the highest end setup. But for a $5k budget, it will due quite nicely for the living room. We will look to another 42 inch and better setup for the theatre/game room being built in the former integral garage. MANLAND, my new garage is about 30 days from being finished (weather delays). Then we can finish the game room project.
