It's one of those preventative maintenance items that I've thought about changing (nearing 80k miles). On my last MB, it was hard to figure out how to get one on and off. Anybody done this yet?
Thanks,
Roger
Silly question but isn't threre a routing diagram under the hood? You just loosen the tensioner and belt should come out. Do the reverse to put it back.

Belt has an automatic tensioner, you unload the belt with a wrench, then route your new belt and load it again.
diagram is not under the hood, i could fax or e-mail the picture, or just take your time and note the position of the belt.

The difficulty reference was to an old 190E, I haven't looked at the ML - I'm sure it's easier. Digital cameras replace brain cells, if there's no diagram. Anyway, I was looking more to see if anyone had done this, or had one break on them.
Thanks,
Roger
I'd like more info on this topic too .. I am approaching 80k miles and was wondering if I could change the timing belt myself too ... if someone could post or send me pictures I would greatly appreciate it ...
RE: Anyone replace their serpentine belt? (Timing belt, also)
Now I'm scared. I was only going to do the serpentine belt, I never though about the timing belt/chain. Is this something I should be thinking about? Has anyone had one break?
Thanks,
Roger
