Brake pad question ?

Are the brake pads the same on 1998 thru 2002+ ML320's ???

Mine's an '02 ML320 and I've seen pads on eBay designating 1998 to 2001 models.

Also, which pads are the best and are ceramics available.

RE: Brake pad question ?

For '02, the 320 uses brakes from the V8's to accomodate the ~10% weight increase. I don't know if there is an answer to 'which pad is best'. Many have used MINTEX without any problems: performance is similar to the OEM pads with reduced dust generation.

RE: Brake pad question ?

Mintex does seem to be the 'best buy' for the money.

So, that means pads listed as ML430 '98-'01 should work.....?

Anyone use or heard of Wagner made by Federal Mogul ?
....a guy with an ML uses them http://www.whnet.com/4x4/brakepads.html

Also, what's the 'expected' mileage....I'm only at 27000 ! [:0]

RE: Brake pad question ?

I cannot claim that the 99-01 ML430 pads will be an exact match for the 02ML320+ series. Check with a vendor such as www.epsparts.com or
www.importecparts.com or www.germanstar.com or etc

Wagners seem OK except I don't think sizing exists for 02+ yet.

Front pad milage ranges from a low of 10k (lots of mountains) to above 40k (lots of freeways). Rear pads last at least two front pads.

Wolfgang's site (whnet.com) has links to DIY postings if you are so inclined.

Thanks Mickey....

I'm changing the pads this weekend and then I'll post my results (and findings). [^]
