Seat noise, 2nd row. Think I got it! (need part numbers)
Anyone have access to MBZ part numbers and can tell if there are updated part numbers for the 2nd row(?)Seat Locking Struts?
My part number looks like (Maker ISE):
60-A-K-15-00306
DC No.:A 163 920 01 10
JCI No.:531079
S1* 0.109 32* 0.100

On my 2000 ML320 the second row seats have alwas ratteled about there mount over bumps.
Dealer has made an effort many times and replaced most of the mechanicals, twice I think.
There conclusion is that it is unfixable and that it is a truck and I should live with it.
After 3 years I thought I would stick my head under there and have a look for myself as the warrentee just expired.
There are three things that look like shock absorbers. For a lack of a better term, they are the Seat Lock Struts for positioning the seats.
There is some play about the bottoms where there is a pin with a circle clip. Luckely these pins ride in two split bushings that can be easly removed. I put a 1/8" pice of electrical tape behind them and reinstalled and tapped the pin in with a lite hammer. Eliminated all the play at that poing.
The bigest problem is in the build of the Seat Lock Struts. they have a significant amount of play in them.
I took one of mine apart and the problem is the size of the bores is to big for the four ball bearings that lock the shaft.
First hope to get a newer Seat Lock Strut that is built to closer tolarance.
If not I might have the holes bushed and the bores accurately fitted to the locking balls. Should be easy for a machine shop to do all three in 2 hours max.
Can't belive MBZ has not made a fix and gotten the info out to the dealers as they know there is a problem.
Still have work on this some but I am hopefull after living with this for three years.
RE: Seat noise, 2nd row. Think I got it! (need part numbers)
The excess play and rattling.
I am going to disable the need to have to pull both side levers to put the seats up & down to. Never understood the reasion for this and iit looks easy to do.
