Wipers...

I recently went to the local auto parts store and picked up some Bosch Micro Edge wipers as replacements for the ML. I finally got around to changing them today and as I was trying to take the spoiler/wind foil off the old wipers and attach to the new ones, I notices there were no square tabs to screw the spoilers onto the new wipers! What a bummer! Please tell me that this is not what the MB dealer charges like $100 for. If thats the only place to get wipers so the spoiler will attach them them I'll stick with what I've got now even though it doesn't look as good [:(]

I don't have my manual with me, but if I am not mistaken, all you have to do is change the rubber part of the wiper, not the entire blade assembly.

RE: Wipers...

if you want to keep your wind foil on your original wiper, then you should just buy the "wiper blade inserts" from dealer. Just use your aftermarket replacement for now without wind foil ... until your next visit to the dealer for service. Remember to put those old wipers with foil so the dealer won't charge you extra for new pair of wipers.

RE: Wipers...

MB no longer offers just the rubber inserts for the ML. It was part # 163-824-00-27 to 2/99 and # 163-824-01-27 after 2/99. These inserts were about $5.00 each.

You will now have to purchase the complete wiper assembly part # 163-820-06-45, which works for both left and right hand sides. It list for $23.50, and provides a much better profit margin.[xx(]

RE: Wipers...

I bought the Bosch Micro new blade assemblies. Then I made little clips from some scrap galvanized tin stock. I painted the clips black and mounted the foils right onto the new assemblies. They have gone thru New England winters with no problem. After the time to make the clips once, it is easy to replace the units.

RE: Wipers...

Same here, just get some good wiper refills and change the rubber only.
you can get some fairly good ones at most auto stores. just make sure you get steel or stainless backed ones not the plastic, they wont last.
