Three nights ago the alarm on my 2002 ML270 went off at 5 in the morning; by it's self! And kept doing it for the next hour and a half. Last night it was 2.40AM!! Does anyone know if the alarm is affected by the cold; it was about -5C last night.

No, the alarm should not be affected by the cold temperatures. You most likely have a false alarm with the glass breakage sensor (by the overhead trip computer) tripping the system. Next time, try turning off that and the tow sensor as a temporary fix. I reckon that you will probably have to visit the dealership to have this issue looked at.
