It's not exactly easy unless you don't mind drilling out pop rivets, after that it was actually pretty fast. In fact I can strip my door apart and remove the lock and door handles in about 5 minutes now.
For those of you replacing your door handles with OEM chrome handles, It's not too hard to replace the door lock section also. No pop rivets needed.
What happened is that my door lock's been machine gunning on and off lately, usually after someone has closed the door. If you press lightly on it, it worked fine, unfortunately my wife was a bit more energetic this weekend and a piece of the plastic internals shattered and fell off. This meant that I could not lock the door at all. Only fix is to replace the whole lock unit which I bought from the dealer on SATURDAY afternoon for about $70. It's pretty easy to strip everything out if you have the right tools but the lock can't come out of the door unless you take out the track for the windows. Those tracks are riveted in. This is also the lock my dealer replaced under warranty and it's kind of annoying that the cheap POS broke again.
It all works now so thank god I'm in the city that never sleeps and that you can get unusual tools and parts almost anytime of the day, night and weekends.
