Cold Air Intake for ML...

Hi Everybody,

came accross this Cold Air Intake System for the ML:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38634&item=2459016 947

What do you guys think? Would you install it in your ML? States that it fits any ML. I have the 2003 ML 350. Will it fit? Does it void warranty? Any comments appreciated.
Thank you!

RE: Cold Air Intake for ML...

If it fits any ML, yours should be OK (there is no difference in the airbox for any W163 - you've got the same setup as an ML55). It will void the warranty on the bulk of the engine issues you'll have (unless you've got a great relationship with your SA). I doubt you'll see much improvement through the upgrade - 10% seems like a random number with no basis in fact (I should call them on it, I'd love an extra 55HP!). Remember, if it were as simple as an extra $100 or so for significant gains with no detriments, MB would have already done it!

Take your $100 and use it to buy a PP rear spoiler. Your ML will look "faster" ;)

Sounds like you have a problem with the open diffs [:D]

with the engine you have what should happen is that under max load your ML should not be able to move an inch, the wheels should be spinning so much that you'd never get any grip and you'd stay immobilized.

Try it, it should work!

If it doesn't, it's probably because the pavement is not perfectly flat under the wheels, or because your ML lacks power. If you do not turn ESP off and it wors as designed, the electronics should apply the brakes so the wheels won't spin, same result, immobilized, and a new set of pads and rotors!

I've said it before, your ML sucks a lot more air than mine!

RE: Cold Air Intake for ML...

spend the money on something else, it does not help. will have MAF problems, no better economy or power.I have tried 4 different types including the Carbon Fiber box. worthless! K&N adds some milage,no difference in power. Many ECU codes, some MAF failures jd

RE: Cold Air Intake for ML...

One other point, as Jeff said, MB spent some time on the box, has two inlets and is designed for several engines. I cant believe anyone else would have spent the same amount of money and engineering on the air cleaner. jd
