Change Tranny fluid and filter @ 120K miles(D)[/*]
Oil and filter changes every 5K miles with DINO oil(M always)[/*]
Repair worn wires on rear speed sensor (M)[/*]
Cabin filter (M)[/*]
Replace Windows switch assembly (M)[/*]
Spark plugs (M)[/*]
Replace mass air meter (M)[/*]
It is subjected to no less than two full gears of WOT from a dead stop DAILY and spirited corning when the mood hits me, the wife and dogs aren't passengers, and Mr. Fife isn't lurking.
On the To-Do list:
[*]Climate control blower motor bearing squeals like CRAZY on settings 1 and 4. (M)[/*][*]Eliminate the 'bird chirp' (M)[/*]
Not the most option laden/accessorized ML out there by a long shot however its reliable and takes what I throw at it.

107K and 118K, both are 98's. Both have had identical issues through their lives...major ones are the fuel pump, and harmonic balancer. One had a drive shaft go. When they were younger, and still under warranty, I was adamant that the dealer fix even the smallest thing. Otherwise, the trucks still look good, inside and out...except for the past few months...all this snow has got them so dirty.

Do you still own this vehicle? I work for the manufacturer of the transfer case (AWD system) and would like to find a high mileage (100,000+ mile) transfer case. The transfer case part numbers we are intereseted in are 44-09-000-005 or 44-09-000-006 and can be found on the transfer case label. We would provide a new replacement and install it. We are located in metro Detroit. Let me know if you are interested
I have a 2001 ML 430 with 109,000 trouble free miles.
I also off road the piss out of it. Spends quite a bit of time in 4 low. Wouldn't mind swapping transfer cases if you still need one. Email me at jobesfzr (at) yahoo.com
I have a 99 ML320 with 144,000 miles. The SUV has not been trouble free but much cheaper than buying a new car. The only thing I have changed in the last year was a battery. I do my own oil changes every 5k miles and have changed all of the fluids over the last 2 years (transmission fluid (second time), differentials, transfer case, power steering, etc.
2000 ML320 with 96,000 miles on it. Runs pretty well, and she is still my baby.
Problems/Repairs:
- Harmonic Balancer replaced under recall
- Cat. Converters changed under recall
- Fuel Pump changed
- Currently, passenger side window stalls halfway when going down.
- All door locks don't lock with remote (machine gun door lock)
I love this car, eventhough I bought her used in April 2004. Hope to keep her for a while.
-3rd owner of 1998 ML320
-purchased Oct 2001 w/ 30K
-current mileage @119K
-major purchase: 4 Duehler Alenzas (1st set of Duehlers lasted 5yrs / 70K miles) + brakes & rotors = $1200
-warranty covered: MAF, window switches & faulty door seals = over $5K of parts & labor
-hwy mileage: 25 - 27 MPG after new spark plugs & K&N filters
trouble free car
love my truck
still get looks
it was a mercedes in 1998 & guess what...its still a MBZ almost 10yrs later!
compare that to a "new honda in 1998 & its still a honda 10yrs later" -doesnt have the same ring does it?
sorry...my tangents
Live Happy!

Just passed 111K this week AUG/13/07 with my ML 430 year 2000.
It's still kicking and running great, ...no regret so far for ownership!...
No Major issues yet!...except annoying small ones and others due to wear and tear... it's an old truck anyway!...
Howdy, I have 114,000 miles on our owned from new '99 320. I've changed the tranny filter-fluid at 60,000 and 100,000. It acts a little strange when down shifting. My fuel guage/sending unit, of course, has issues(I'm on the 3rd or 4th). My wife loves the rig as do I. I'd really like the new turbo diesel. Just went 3000 miles to Montana pulling a small trailer and still got a little over 20MPG.
