I recently bought a 2001 ML 430 with navigation on ebay. The truck came from Ga and I am in RI. It didn't come with a Navigation CD. I bought a CD on ebay, inserted it, all seemed fine. I punch an address in and it says to keep driving for a while. My GPS Info shows my coordinates but there are 0 satellites picking me up. Any ideas what might be wrong? I'm under the assumption that this was not an aftermarket addition. I look forward to hearing anyone for help.
Frequently when the GPS coordinates are very different from expected, the system gets confused. Drive it for a few hours and things should get cleared up. The cold-start synchronization is pretty bad, but there are very few occasions when it's needed. Also make sure that you drive under an open sky without too many trees or tall buildings in the way.

Same thing when I bought retrofitted my Nav into my ML. The Nav unit was from NYC. So here's what I had to do:
The MCS satellite signal icon that shows reception comes on only after signals from at least 6 satellites has been fixed and confirmed.
Here's the procedure:
A) Leave the car in an open area where it can acquire
the satellite signals. Leave the MCS ON (key
position 2) and have the car parked for at least
20 to 30 mins.
B) MCS will then slowly acquire the needed satellites and fully recalibrate.
Check satellite signal by going to
OPTIONS
GSP INFORMATION
It will tell you number of satellite signals
acquired.
C) If above doesn't work, then you may have a bad
antenna

...and before buying a new one, check that the antenna is tightened down. Remove the little cap, then use a wrench to tighten it so it makes contact with the roof. If it doesn't make contact, no satellites can be acquired.
Ok thanks for the info. I forgot to mention that Tele Aid was tracking me while my Navigation was down. Which should mean the problem lies between the splitter and the MCS. Unfortunately after I sent my truck into the dealership Tele Aid doesn't track me anymore. Thats an issue that I am taking up with the dealership. Also how do I get to the Antennae
The Teleaid GPS and the NAV are completely independant. Since both have quit working it sounds as if it might be the antenna, or booster (shown in the above photo). The splitter is actually downstream from the booster which is mounted under the passenger seat.
