Hmmm. I'd still be worried about battery drain but you may be able to kill two birds with one stone. How about getting one of those jump-start kits (essentially a portable battery with built-in jumper cables. Plug that into the switched outlet and use it to power the DVD player. You may be able to store one discretely under a seat for a cleaner install. This way you'd have some amount of battery backup for the DVD player without draining the battery and it would be useful in case you (or anyone else) really needs a jump.

RE: Need a 12v, always on wire to tap
Thanks to all. I decided to use the power seat source. I tapped into the ground (brown) and hot (orange) as it comes out of the carpet, right before it plugs into the electric seat harness. Everything works great. It made it much easier to run the wires through the seat and then out of the seat post.
