hOw would you know (by looking your interior)if you`ve got baby smart option in your ML. Except calling your MB dealer by giving the VIN.
Dewdaltz,
Look in your back seat. If you see the two cutouts with the metal piece going across the cutout in the bottom seat cushion where it meets that back, you have them. Also based on your model year I would say that you have them, because I have a 2003, and I have them.[:)]

You can check your instrument panel to see if you have an airbag off lamp. See your manual. Furthermore you should have a sticker on the inside front passenger door, just below the mirror, that states that it is a BabySmart compatible vehicle and has some warnings about using a proper baby seat.

You are describing the LATCH (lower anchors and tethers) points. This is a mounting mechanism for the newer car seats, and has nothing to do with BabySmart, which is a way for a compatible seat to disable the front passenger air bag. Our 2001 ML does not have LATCH but it does have BabySmart, as I believe all ML's have.

Thanks Daniel. I misunderstood what I read. My 2003 has the babysmart sticker on the door and I thought the mounts in the back seat were what disabled the side airbags in the babysmart system.
