My 2000 ML acame with 18" AMG rims. The tires were P285/50R18. There is nowhere in the manual or on a decal that tells me the correct tire inflation pressure. Now I have replacement tires, P285/60R18. Does anyone know what the inflation pressure should be?

I posted a question in the Tire forum and Luke said to run 32 front and rear on the 50s, I would think the 60s would be the same, but you could ask Luke.

Originally, I bought my new ML with brand new 18" AMG wheels and 285/60R18 B/Duller tires, from the dealer. Later I changed the tires to Michellin's Pilot LTX 285/60R18.
On the gas filler door, you should have a sticker with the recommended tire pressure. Mine says 29 PSI front and back for normal ride.
Even though they recommend 29 psi, each tire provides different feedback to the shocks valving/disks so to achieve the best shock tuning you will have to experiment at various psi's. The more psi, the tighter/stiffer the shock will get and if you put too much air, you will have a tighter ride at highway speeds. If you put too a low psi, then you will have a nice ride, but your ML may wobble a lot. If it wobbles to much, you should increase the air pressure of your tires to make them stiffer and control the wobbling. If you obtain a nice controlled ride at lower speeds, but your highway ride is too stiff, it may help to adjust the torsion bar (lowering a bit your ML) to obtain a smoother ride at highway speeds. If you can't obtain a smooth ride and your ML wobbles too much on rough roads, then you may need to change shocks. Get 2002+ OEM new shocks (if you prefer OEM) since they are supposed to have been tuned better for the ML's..
Currently, I have Bilsteans, and after testing various setups, I found that 38 psi on the front tires and 43 psi on the back tires provides me the best ride at low and high speeds and on rough or smooth terrains.
You need to be careful when inflating your tires since tires have a wide range of maximum pressures. My Michellin Pilot LTX (reinforced) have a maximum of 50 psi, but my B/Dueller the maximum PSI was around 40 psi. You never want to exceed the maximum recommended pressure.
You need to take into account, too, that you will have a 1 psi increase/decrease for each 10 degrees of temperature increase/decrease. In addition, if you drive for a long time, friction will further increase your tire PSI.

My 2000 ML320 was also purchased in Houston. It was billed as the "Jurassic Park" edition. My wife is the one who really uses it. It has these big tires on it, bull bars, TV monitors in the headrests and other upgraded stuff. I cannot find any reference to the AMG wheels and tires in the manuals. Is this similar to yours? I am trying to find out the story behind this specific model. The tires are at 37 psi and seem to be OK.

I would love to see some pictures of your ML. Can you post some?

As soon as it warms up to +5 degrees F I will take a few pics and post them. I think my camera would freeze out there today. Boston weather is not too nice this time of year. [:p]

I know what you mean. My sister-in-law and brother-in-law live in Sandwich.
I hear its going to be a cold football game tonight for the Patriots
Yes, the dealer had the Jurassic Park package and that is what I partially got..
Yes, the dealer had the Jurassic Park package, MB Houston North was where I bought my ML, and that is what I partially got. I did not want the big front bars, so I chose the smaller front bar. I don't have either the large sun roof.
I guess you will need to look at the ML 55 AMG for information on the AMG wheels and tires since they are standard on them. The dealer is supposed to install the proper tire specific pressure stickers on the gas door. Normally, that will be the correct pressure for the best performance and tuned ride, but if you changed tires types/brands, then depending on the tire construction, properties, and feedback the best ride may or may not be at the recommended tire pressure. I know my B/Duellers 285/60R18 had a stiff vertical tire wall compared to the Michellin Pilot's, which made them more prone to wobble and to be harsher. The Michelly Pilot in my opinion were a great improvement over the B/Duellers.

Proper size tires for the ML55 are 285/50R18, [b]not[/b[ 285/60R18 so looking at the ML55 pressure will not give you the correct pressure, however, the will be close.
