There are no body/frame modifications...

The only modifications allowed in the T1 production vehicle class that the MLs are running in, are mainly safety modifications (and a few other things, such as racks for extra tires, tools, etc). Everything else, such as the engine, transmission, electronics (including 4ETS and ESP), differentials, and even the carpeting and wood trim, has to remain stock.

No, there are different classes...

Vehicles are prepared for and compete in different classes. I believe the Renault runs in the T4 Prototype class, as do many of the Mitsubishis. This means that they are allowed extensive modifications, as well as nightly engine swaps if they wish. No such allowances in the T1 production vehicle class; the whole point of this class is to test the vehicles' durability/reliability as is, as well as the driver's expertise + the team's preparations.

Blau, overall the MLs are between place 12 and 29. In their class, PRODUCTION 4X4, they are on 2, 4, 5 and 6. The last 5 days were hard, with a sandstorm today and many teams gave up. Only about 30 are still competing. That's Yves Menguy's ML320 in the photo.

Re: No, there are different classes...

Wow, I didn't know that either. We should be pretty damn proud of the way ML perform in the most brutal off road world competition then.
