I am currently owning a C230 Kompressor (year 2000), and i am interested changing this one for a W140 (year 97-99).
I still dunno yet which one to choose (S320, S420, ...). What are the potential probs i should check before buying?
Is the yearly maintenance expensive?
I plan to buy it from my local dealer and get a warranty too.

Basically it comes down to money and (performance).
If money is no object go the s600. But since you asked about yearly maintenance then it is an issue..and the s600 are definetly more expensive to maintain.(v12)..and with the price of s600 you can probably buy 2 s320's...
Your next option is the s500...(which is what i have)..its more expensive then the s420 and the s320..because of the 5.0 v-8.....If you stil want the v-8..but a cheaper alternative..u can go for the s420...
Finally if your working on a tighter budget..you can buy the s320...it has basically the same look..but has the v-6... the thing you need to know is that they make a shorter body version for the s320 and long body....most people prefer the long wheel base...
If you can go for the last year they made them..1999...this way you can choose one with less miles then say a 97.......and most likely the cars you will be looking at will have less than 75k...and i dont think there is much problems beside regular maintenance..and if you worried about maintenance or a sudden problem...you can purchase a warranty from a private compnay like source warranty if the car doesnt already come with one...
