Infrared Remote Key

The infrared remote keys don't work from the time I bought my car from the earlier owner. Does anyone know what are potential fixes?

I changed the batteries and they don't seem to work. Even the infrared light on the key does not light up when the key is pressed. Assuming something could be wrong with the infrared light, I tried recoding the keys based on the instructions on pp119 of the owner's manual. That did not work either. I have two keys and neither worked. Any suggestions? I don't want to spend too much money to fix the problem. It would be cool to have them working again, but it's something I can live without if it costs too much.

Check your IR

To check if the remote is emanating IR radiation you may want to use an Infrared sensor card that you can get at any RadioSha.. the PN for the item is 276-1099 and it's very cheap. Good luck.

Infrared keycode

You have to program your key after changing batteries (see the notice) or read the response I made a few days ago on the subject.
Sorry for my poor english.

Steph is correct. According to the owner's manual, you have to sychronize the remote and the car after you change the car battery or the remote batteries. Look in your owner's manual. It gives you the instructions to do this.

No infrared emission?

Thanks guys! It still does not work:( The red light on the key does not light up, and the synchronization did not work (I followed the instructions in the manual). I tried it with both of my keys. It is possible that both keys may have been damaged and hence not transmitting IR rays, or that the receiver in the car has gone bad. Any further ideas?

Infra Red Remote

If your remote is older then it may need cleaning.

Step No1 Get a video camera, look through the camera and put the remote infront of it and press the button. If its working you will see the infra red light through the camera.

Step 2 Of its not working take the remote apart and clean the contacts & batteries. If you have a volt meter measure the voltage across the batteries sould be more than 1.2 volts. If they are at all suspect byuy some new ones, then test again with the camera.

Step 3 A new remote in the UK is £55.00 but you need to produce passport, car registration and licence to order one.

Im affraid I dont have any ideas to check the car sensor side.

Good Luck

It works now!

The problem was very simple. The previous owner had the batteries in wrong (in both keys). He had the car for five years so I assumed he knew. I changed the batteries and put them in the right way and both keys now work. It is amazing, how after ten years, the keys work so well and it operates the doors, as well and the windows and sun roof. I'm glad I did not have to buy new keys, just new batteries!
