A must see for W140 transmission rebuild

This website shows the rebuilding of the 772.3 and 772.4 transmission. I have the 772.3 in my 92 500SEL. I found it very helpful to have an idea of what is involved in rebuilding a trans because I have to make the decision to either rebuild mine or get a factory remanufactured trans. Unless you have a lot of confidence in your trans. person I would go for the factory one with the 2 year warranty considering the complexity of this job. Once you reach the website click on Total Tech Database in the left column. Select Mercedes as the model then click on "722.3 and 722.4 Series". A menu will appear in this left column, click on any of the topic especially the "Rebuild Minimums" to see many pictures and detailed descriptions of a rebuild job.
Website: www.transonline.com
So, what did it cost?

I have a 92 500sel,and it stopped going into reverse a week ago. So far, I've done nothing - waiting for the right time and price. Can't really afford to pay the $6K for a rebuild (I'm told).
Help!

about your tranny

I had a 79 450SEL and it stopped going into reverse and I took it to my mechanic and he replaced a seal and everything was fine, may be the same with your car, check into it
