S500 - Oil Press at Zero

Oil pressure is at zero, but car runs fine. I just changed the oil Pressure sender, but press is still showing zero. The 1999's were not known to have the wiring harness problems. AI did remove the cluster and change all bulbs a while back, but everything was working after the reinstallation.

Any other suggestions?

It's grounded somewhere. Mine is the same - for me the insulation failed so I ground the circuit, intending to replace the wire, but haven't gotten around to it.

Before you spin your wheels. You need qualify post three before parts changing. Get some 40, 90, 150 ohms in 2% to 5% in 1watt size resistors to see if that cluster is working. You can ohm it out from the cluster back for some value smaller than 13 ohms for shorts.

I have not changed oil pressure gauges, but have had a gauges go dead because of corrosion in the cluster, so I clean them up with 400 or so sand paper.

Gage on Minus Zero

A close look at my cluster showed that the oil pressure gage needle is on the left side of the pin at zero. Maybe when I was working on the cluster I created a cluster &*^% by bumping the needle to the wrong side?

Cool Problem Elliminated

It was the gage needle. I gently raised it and put it ion the correct side. Pressure is now 3Bar at start-up! Now I have to re-insert the "idiot light cover cards". These have to be removed prior to removing the lens cover. Fortunately the cluster is still loose.

On my w140 the cluster is the issue of my oil pressure gauge it shows at 0 wjen the reading is at 1.5bar. We attached a manual gauge at the shop and all was well i finally gave up my on my cluster. My mpg gauge failed and my fuel gauge isnt working right either. My rpm gauge was bad at a point but i swapped the rpm gauge with a r129 rpm gauge and it started working. I went crazy and changed the fuel level sensor $300, oil pressure sensor, oil level sensor, coolant temp sensor, and outside temp sensor. I swapped in a 99 s500 cluster and everything was working but my mileage is off so i didnt keep the cluster.

If the "new" cluster works maybe you can get a notarized statement affirming the mileage of the old cluster and the mileage of the new. I was lucky that somehow the needle had skipped to the wrong side. Or, maybe you can just swap the gages that are bad from the "new" to the old. Does the speedometer and odometer work in the old cluster?

Hmm, didn't think of that despite seeing that problem on various gauges previously. Should have!

Its not about the mileage "legality" i am worried about. I like keeping it original esspecially since the cluster i have has 8000miles. Plus its a 99 cluster it will show esp light all the time. I have a collection of low mileage clusters at home. I can say in my case its not gauges that are bad its the circuit board. The mileage is permanently attached to the corcuit board with tamper protection. I have someone that does mileage correction but he wanted too much and too much paper work
