Hello all,
this is my first post here and just wanted to say; Hi. and... HELP please.
I have been lusting over a black, big bodied, W126 560SEL. One day, (jsut a couple of days ago in fact), i was scouring through the local classifieds when low and behold, what should I see but a 1993 600SEL... in my price range no less! So i call the number in the ad and the seller is sowing the car to another potential buyer just a couple of miles from my house. I am not sure how it happened but i ended up making a low offer, (due to the oil present on the under carriage, and the woeful lack of oomph), and the Seller accepted my offer.
I was completely seduced by this 12 cylinder siren, all of the functions that i recognized, (and in my giddyness remembered) to operate seemed to function. The power seats, the seat heaters, the dual climate zone, AC was great, vacuum doors worked, and shes registered until my birthday next year. However, today i went to start her up and while I was sitting in the driver seat, there was a recurring noise like a small motor is whirring just behind the passenger seat?? I started the car and rolled down the windows but but two did not return to up position (without help), i stepped out of the "cockpit" and popped the bonnet to check for fault codes as powerplant feels absolutely anemic, (yet no CEL, or MIL) and the door vacuum did not operate. I also think the air shocks are done.
I have been searching the net and playing with the multitude of functions in the front and back of the SEL and have found several other small(ish) problems, most of which i can love with and address as i have time. What i cannot live with the fact that there is a 6 liter V12 lumped to front of this small apartment we call a car, and it feels like a four banger... without the zip
The PB OBD revealed the following codes:
7: Ignition system defective, fault from Fuel/Ignition control system (right bank in 120)
13: Camshaft position sensor (CMP) signal, fault from Fuel/Ignition control system (right bank in 120)
15 Wide open throttle (WOT) signal incorrect/implausible.
19 Fuel injector circuit, open or short circuit or self adaptation at limit. (right bank in 120)
51 Fuel injector circuit, open or short circuit or self adaptation at limit. (left bank in 120)
I checked and cleaned what sensors i could find and reach without disassembling too much. The right bank cam sensor did seem a bit dirty, an i found a loose injector plug on the right bank as well. I have a receipt from the PO indicating the upper harness has been replaced and it does appear to be quite new.
I cleared the codes and went driving around, for a few miles up and down the freeway, but the damn thing just feels like its in limp mode.
I pulled back into the garage and checked the codes again. Now i have the following codes:
7: Ignition system defective, fault from Fuel/Ignition control system (right bank in 120)
15 Wide open throttle (WOT) signal incorrect/implausible.
41 Intake air temperature sensor signal. Open or short circuit (left bank in 120)
51 Fuel injector circuit, open or short circuit or self adaptation at limit. (left bank in 120)
So three of the original 5 have returned and one new one, (i probably disturbed some remaining soybean insulated wire while cleaning the sensors on fault 41).
Any help, advice, direction on where to look how to troubleshoot the Fuel Injector Circuit, and or the WOT error would be greatly appreciated. i have been searching for hours and cant seem to find anything specifically dealing with these codes.
i do notice that the throttle bodies hum constantly while the ignition is on and the engine is off, and i can hear a clicking coming from the left bank body, i dont know if this normal or even pertinent, but i thought it may have something to do the the WOT issue, which may be leading to the injection fault. ...? Also the RMP's never go over 4500, even revving in neutral, and in gear i can put the pedal to the floor and just creeeeep off the line, it eventually picks up but always shifts at or before 4500 RPM and sometimes very abruptly.
Sorry for all the words, i just wanted to account for all the data that may help diagnose the issues.
Any help appreciated.
Thank you,
Ben
