I know there are a lot of threads about stuck glove compartments, however all of them mentions that you should turn the key in a 45° angle and then try to pull out the keyhole using a specific technique. My problem is, the key won't even turn, so what can I do? I tried pulling hard down it, but I'm pretty sure I'd just break it, if I applied even more force. Is there any other way to get the keyhole assembly out?
If cylinder does not turn with key, then this seems to indicate that either key is not matched to cylinder or corrosion of area around cylinder or something stuck behind the cylinder.
First need to evaluate the match of key & cylinder. Lube inside cylinder with some spray penetrating oil. Then work key again with a little wiggle/jiggle finesse to try to feel if cylinder turns at all (indicating that key match to cylinder is good).
EPC shows lock cylinder & key available for ~$30 US so cost is not high, but removal with damaging latch mechanism it is installed in would require some instruction/care.
No, I'm using the proper ignition key. Also I believe it does turn a little bit, but only for like 5 degrees max. It is possible that my lock cylinder is messed up, but how would I go about removing it? Since to remove it, you need to turn the key 45° and then insert a pin into the small hole next to the cylinder.
I can open the small compartment easily in the center of the dashboard, but even though I can push the button for opening the glove compartment, it doesn't work. I do feel I need to apply the same amount of force as for the small middle compartment.
There is a plastic part behind the lock cylinder that is indexed/engaged with the end of the lock cyl that does the locking/unlocking of the glove box which has a cable connection to the latch mechanism with the buttons.
When I got my '99 S500, the lock cyl turned, but I could not open the glove box with either position of the lock cyl.
I was able to remove the lock cyl and the latch mechanism and correctly position the rotating plastic piece the was not properly keyed into the lock cyl.
After that, all works correctly.
Perhaps in your case, that plastic part is farther out of position and is somehow getting jammed when you try to rotate the key.
You can remove spectacles case on top and maybe you will be able to see something on the back of the latch mechanism that may give clue while you try to rotate the key.
I'm not sure how much you can see when the spectacles case is out, but it's worth a try as it is not hard to remove.
My last CL500 had a problematical glove compartment. I Had my wife forcefully depress the button while I rapped the door smartly and pulled at the same time. It did open. There is an adjustment that can be made on the cable somewhere here in the archives. that solved my problem.

I've heard that, that can break the whole thing, and it'll cost me even more. I'd rather refrain from using that. Isn't there like a way to get to the cylinder from the small compartment for example?
I looked at service info and that says that W140 spectacles case removal requires lock cyl.
R129 uses the similar latch and same lock cyl, but does not require removal of latch for removal of spectacles case.
It should also be noted that W140 service data says the glove box must be open to remove lock cyl & latch, but I know that this part is not true as I have done it without opening glove box.
So removing spectacles case is worth a try. 2 screws at back removed & pull out.
1999 S320 here. Hey guys, my glove box will lock but even when unlocked the door doesn't release. The spectacle compartment works fine but when I push the glove box button to open it I have to pull down really hard to get it to release. Is there an adjustment I can make to make the button open the latch more?
You can take out the glove box liner and then troubleshoot the latch.
You may have to remove lock cylinder and button assy if the locking mechanism in the button assy is not aligned/engaged properly.
I cited this syndrome earlier in this thread.
