I have had my '95 S600 Coupe now for a few months. I've put about 2K miles on it already. I love driving this car. I have a few issues I'm trying to resolve. Any help would be appreciated:
Issue 1 - The AC is too cold.
Most people have the opposite problem. I suspect there is some blending door that's not working properly OR there's an internal cabin temperature sensor that's not functional because I cannot seem to get heat out of the car unless the temp dials are at full stop Red/Hot. On a similar and maybe related item, when I hit the recirculate button, I get a large amount of fresh air (neither hot nor cold) coming out the vents under the dash on the passenger side.
Any Clues to my problem?
Issue 2 - Check Engine light. I have had to reset the check engine light three times in the past two months. The issue is always the same: Knock Sensor issue. I am running premium gas in the car but I'm still having this problem. Is the problem with the 2014 gas in California or the sensor in the engine?
Any Clues to this problem?
Issue 3 - Self Closing Door Windows. These self closing doors are interesting but I'm trying to determine their overall value. On the passenger side, I can close the door like one would on a normal car and the door and the rear quarter window close (slightly) as they should to mate up with the door gaskets. On the driver side, however, the windows won't perform their little dance unless I press the door closed and allow the self closing mechanism to operate to its full potential. Why would the passenger side door work both with a gentle press or a shove and the driver side door only works with a gentle press?
Any clues to this problem?
I am trying to bring this car back to its full glory with every feature working as Mercedes designed it but the complexities of this car are thwarting my efforts.
By the way, I'd be curious to see if other people have determined their gas mileage on an S600. I recently drove 900 miles in two days: LA to Phoenix and back. I averaged 18 MPG while traveling at an average speed of 85 MPH. Is this average for this engine and car?
Thanks all for your help.
