I Just Got My 1999 S320 LWB & Joined This Site....Now I Would Like A Few Opinions....
Hey all,
I just picked up my first Benz. It's a 1999 S320 LWB black on black. I was looking to make a few minor modifications to start & I wanted to know if you pros can offer your advice.
I have basically no previous experience with modifying cars so if any of you experts out there think I'm making a mistake in anything I'm looking to do please do not hesitate to tell me I'm out of my mind. Here are my first 3 interests:
I could not help you with any of your questions. My S500 came with factory Xenons.
One thing I would highly recommend you replace right away before any trips or drives. Replace your heater Tee as when it goes you have 30 seconds to respond before you cook your engine. Buy a fresh tee from the Mercedes dealer. No Ebay deals or aftermarket tee's!!!
Congrats on your 1st MB ,i imagine you are over exited etc and want to fix /change /add to the car wich is perfectly normal & a good thing but since the car is black on black i would'nt install a black grille ,i think it takes away the beautifull front of the 140 ,if however you like the black grill & the way the car looks later then might as well add the smoked black headlights & blinkers as well ,instant nightrider look without the gadjets ,there is only one question there ,"Do you like the nightrider look or w140 look now do you " ,lol .
Black grill yes but with the chromed fins on it looks best (look below),now imagine the cars look below with the grill you would like to add to it .
All you need to get are the HID 6000K set lights from ebay,they produce the same light like a late model w221 merc .
On e'bay (again) for a black car with clear headlights there are blinkers available in diamond crystal look ,they look cool i think or the rarer double half coloured once wich are half clear & about a quarter orange ,those were my favourites .

The only part i would change on the car below would be the corner blinkers ,the once fitted are the dull blinkers lens ,this one needs the crystall look blinkers to match the headlights same goes for the side blinker on the fender , another modification i would strongly look into would be the mirrors with the blinker in them ,available for late models but not early once .

Would you be able to recommend a specific auction or another keyword that I can add to narrow the results? Even when I modify the listings by car type there are still over 300 matches. I am looking to buy the lights tonight if that is possible.
Also, where can I see the diamond crystal look blinkers vs the rarer double half colored which are half clear & a quarter orange? What shall I search on ebay to see those?
Lastly, thanks for the grill advice. I rather not black out my headlights, etc. so I will stick with the stock grill for now. It seems as if the most popular grill is the S600 according to a few of the threads I have read since joining.

The HID's conversion are all basically the same all you need to do is find out the size of your low beams bulb size ,is it a H3 H7 or H1 ,i know later models are different then like mine earlier once ,then you need to make sure you get the digital version and not analog as the replacment bulbs are hard to find now ,everything is digital these days next is how much do you want to spend on them ,i bought a cheap test hid 6000k kit and i was so happy with it that i also bought another set for the foglights as well ,installing those and when turn't on lights up all the side of the road ,awesome look ,i used to drive with them on always without glaring other drivers as well ,this cheap analog set lastet me for about 3 + years before one bulb gave in .
Take your best 6000k pic here,all digital: Mercedes hid 6000k | eBay .When searching for HID light kit ,you dont nessesarily need the word Mercedes added,the modification is easy .
If you want to keep it original... keep the grille you have now or get a black grille with 4 horizontal lines, 6 horizontal lines are for S600's.
LoL,thats the whole idee of modding a car ,changing the appearance or in some cases upgrading overall ,add to much & you ruin it but tasty modifications are always good ,as long as they are in the right places .Why fly low when you can fly high ,with the grill added from a 600 just make sure you never get seen with the hood open ,lol.
I have a few final questions before I make my purchases.
1 - Do I need the HID bulbs or the HID kit or both? Both,HID kit should come with the bulbs in it
2 - I see that not only do they have 6000k HID's but they go up to 14000k. Is the higher the better? No ,only colour gets more deeper.
3 - I also see that the HID's come in different colors such as blue, pink, purple, violet, etc. Should I stick to the clear color on those? YES-Yes-YESeeeeeS-Y....
4 - Which one of the 2 sets of corner lights should I get? 2nd one
You will need both ,a complete kit hid of 6000K if you like more blue in them then go 8000k and more colour 10000k & so on & on ,6000K is a bright white light anything above that adds colour to the light ,some like it & some dont it's up to you,look at the late Mercedes models ,any of them ,thats about the 6000K lights output .Ever seen cars on the road with real deep blu ,pink or purple light at night making them totally illegal on the road (here anyway),those are the coloured once .
I would get the 2nd pair (37$ set ) crystal .
