I just purchased a 1999 S500 with just under 12k miles. I paid $16000. I have been searching for several years and this is by far the finest example I have seen. It is a one owner California car, originally registered in Pasadena. The car is nearly perfect, all rubber is black and rubbery, fuzzy strips are still fuzzy, paint is glossy, interior is practically brand new. Build date is 6/98.
I'm planning to put on the W220 18" AMG Style I monoblocks.
Was there a sport or AMG style steering wheel available for the W140? I don't like the squishy stock wheel, so any suggestions would be appreciated.
Also what are my options for an iPod connection for the stock head unit? I don't want to change out the head unit as the sound is great as it is. It also has the 6 disc Alpine CD changer in the trunk.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the photos. I'll post more once I have the new wheels mounted.
Welcome to benzworld for ipod connectivity, i just bought a grom ipod adapter, it allows you to charge your ipod and control it through the factory head unit. i also upgraded mine with bluetooth so i can do hands free talking and control my music wirelessly with the stock head unit. i am going to do a write up on it when i get home and install it. but here is a video of the product itself in the mean time congratulations and enjoy the car

Great, this looks like exactly what I need. I checked the forums but it seemed like most people were integrating with earlier head unit models than the one I have.
oh also, if you decide to get a wood and leather steering wheel, send me a PM i may be interested in yours.
Is there an all-leather sport version available? The wood/leather ones I've tried seem to get too slippery. I have the AMG wheel on my CLK and I like it because it has the bumps at 10 and 2, it's all leather, and it's firmer than the original wheel.

Wow that is nice and I think you got a great deal on it. Have you had a past history with W140's and if I was you I'd keep it stock since its such a fine example. What are you planning to use the car for?

If you purchase it, be sure to also buy the i-pod adapter cable. well worth it. plus you will need it to control your iPod through the factory head unit. Mine with all the accessories added(bluetooth, adapter cable, and extra aux cable) was $160. Do more research on it, because it also replaces the factory CD changer. Dont know if you need a cd changer if you have an i-pod, but its still a downside i suppose. there are sport steering wheels available with cutouts, but i have only seen them finished with wood.
I have seen these steering wheels on our cars. out of the old clk55. i think they fit without modification but i may be wrong.

Thanks. My first Mercedes was a W126, 1989 420SEL that I owned from 1999-2001. Then a 2002 CLK 430 which I bought new and now has 240k miles.
I don't plan to make any modifications to the W140 other than the AMG wheels and ipod connection. I'm planning to use the car for driving around on nice days and special occasions. The CLK will continue to be my daily driver until it stops going.
