I can tell some things from this just by looking at it:

DB = Daimler Benz
A = American market
C = Model year 1990
G = Model year 1994

My SEC and SEL were only 228 units apart on the production line in 08/89.

Guesses:

E = S class.

XR = Regular wheelbase

3L = Coupe

XL = Long wheelbase

A = Again for american market???

All right. I am confused. On the data card, my sales description for the W140 is listed as S 420 L. But the car simply states S420. I thought the LWB models had the designation on the trunk as well. ??? Can anyone clear this up. Thanks.

 

I've never seen an "L" designated on a Benz, Lexus yes. On paper print out the long version model is designated as "v" the short is "w" .
