We visited the Fairfield County Concours today. Beautiful venue, on a bright blue-sky day. Perfect temps for a car show.

There were about 30 Mercedes on exhibit, NOT ONE A W140! Odd, no?

What was the predominent model? Early SL's, followed by early 1990's E-classes in various configurations. There was a very nice 1972 600 SWB showing. No pre-war MB's. No 1950's era MB's either, although there was one on show as a 'Barn Find'. Yikes! if you think restoring our w140's is a challenge, try a 1950's era Pontoon coupe rusted through and through, complete with a thick application of guano and an interior that looked like two tigers were fighting inside it, then expired. Easily a $100k+ restoration job.

Most other brands were represented, including Maclaren. There were good seminars on caring for classic cars, and another on choosing what car(s) to restore and what is holding values in these times. Interesting, all.

Anyway, it was a good time for 'car people'.

it goes through tomorrow, Sunday, so if you're in the area and feel like taking a leisurely stroll through a great car show, make the effort. You won't be disappointed.

oh yeah the SLs are the total show posers. everybody and their cat has one. no joke.

rare my ass. stacked 40 deep in some garages going back to the gullwing years

oddly enough you can find unmolested w124s quite easily vs later models

Meanwhile, if you want to see some amazing cars (no Benzes) from the '20's and 30's to early '50's, there were some terrific examples. As most manufacturers in that era produced engines and drive trains, and had custom coach builders make the bodies, the variations are wild. And these cars are HUGE!

If you have a chance to go, DO! Highly recommended if you love cars in general. And it's a perfect day weather-wise.

Enjoy!
