Transmission - Conductor Plate replacement

Hey guys,

Does a new conductor plate need reprogramming?

Found a small pdf about replacing the conductor plate in a 722.6 transmission, but other than unscrewing/re-screwing changing oil & filter, it mentioned nothing else. I'm changing the plate to get rid of input/turbine speed sensor code p0715 and frequent slipping/underpower delivery

Thanks !!!

Thanks a looooooot!!
u mean delete error memory right!?

#4 ·
Whether you call it error delete or clearing codes, the P0715 error is stored in the TCM and can only be cleared with a scanner that can interface with the TCM. Carsoft, SDS, Snap-On, etc. I have read, but never verified, that Innova has some scanners that will clear transmission codes.

That's the frustrating thing about this; you've fixed the underlying problem, but it won't work properly until the error is cleared. Go figure. ;)

Good luck.

Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!:D:D

I found this conductor plat for 180$, called the customer service to verify the pic cause I couldn't see any sensor on the plate!! They said that the part is OE therefor should come as I would've bought it from the dealer. Nevertheless, they said this IS the actual pic of the plate itself:cool: go wonder why I see only plastic parts:eek: Any idea?

Guys, the people from buycarparts com were very kind in taking pictures of the actual conductor plate they were gonna ship.

What do you think? Does this plate contain the input speed sensor?? I see only plastic plate no sensors or any other electric part on it!

ok, in red-speed sensors (in and out)
in white-places for solenoids (YOU HAVE to put in your old ones)
in yellow-some switch sensor, mabe tranny lock up
AND also it has a tranny oil temperature sensot on the other side (in yellow)

Thanks iss !!! Wasn't expecting too see such wonderful artistic skills!!:D Thanks a lot!
So the speed sensors are on it, othewise the solenoid is the only thing I need to install on it? the switch and oil temperature sensors aren't to be touched, right ?
How advanced skills does moving the solenoid need?

look at my pics. and fallow step by step as i numbered the pics. i also put few pics. how to drain the torque converter( you need this if you wonna change it tranny oil). And now is important: remove the plastic cups from solenoids, remove bolts and holders, careful by hand remove solenoids and only then u can remove conductor plate of the valve body. put new plate no the body (careful) , solenoids ,holders, screw ,cups and.... you know :) any questions-welcome!!! Mr. B

Ive got the same issue ..... today i changed the adapter plug unfortunately I dont have a carsoft to reset....i am weary of taking it to a dealer to have it reset only for the same problem to occur or should I just change everything like u did here and then get it reset.

Would this information help fix a "no reverse gear" issue?

The Mercedes Transmission is something I am VERY scared of lol

yeah im on the same boat ive started getting the po743-torque converter clutch solenoid circuit.....
would you guys recommend i change the solenoid or just go with a new conductor plate and get all 6 solenoids i believe itll all run me around 3 to 4 hundred???

or what else could be throwing this code???

#20 ·
do the speed sensors come with the conductor plate? also it is perfect time to change up some of the seals while you take the valve body out i didn't do mine and no its poring :(

to get the valve body recondition was $1000 and to get a full tranny and torque converter rebuild is $2000 (including valve repairs $2k for me at my cousins shop ;) )

#21 ·
a new valve body from the dealers is 900.......conductor plate was from 150-250??? dont remember, and each of the solenoids are 30-36 bucks.... is there anything that goes bad other than that???
dealer prices!!! havent checked autohaus yet.

but im probably gonna change all that shit and order myself a new power steering pump while im at it.... get my girl in to perfect working order..... and then repaint it..... again....

Codes

so what was the code meaning to say. What was your car doing and if there was tranny problem how will I know , any light indicating it. The reason I ask is my car sometimes has slow pickup speed at low rpm until I start reaching 3k rpm then it's start flying. Also a hum along with tranny going through gears... Im so paranoid!!!!!

transmission codes are stored in the tcu can be viewed by star diagnostics also sometimes you might even get a check engine light.

Parts Departement @ local MB dealers confirms they see conductor plates going at incredible rates
One man mentioned that one shop calls for arround 10 conductor plates a week.
They ARE the weak point in MB transmission.. No need ofr rebuilt
Part is out there for les than 200$ and installation is doable, or costs 300-400$ by professional

the tranny can't decide when to precisly change gears specially in first/second.. it jumps from one to another a few times before chosing one and you feel that it does not hol/transmit all the power that the engine makes (a.k.a slippy feel under 3k rpm)
Plus for me it is complet tranny shut off when heavy kick down..
Usualy related to bad harness/electric plug connectivity (change eletrical bushing)

Yeah that could be something different..because it does not concern speed sensors
"could" check out shift solenoids but could be anything less I don't know much about other tranny problems:S

Tranny

I'm also getting a hum sound in neural or in gears. I'm can clearly hear it revving in neutral and driving. To me it sound like a noisy pump, or low fluid but it shift fine. Low fluid can cause slow pickup speed dued to not enough pressure

For the record: 722.6 Transmission

6 Solenoids

1. Modulating pressure regulating solenoid valve
2. Shift pressure regulating solenoid valve
3. 1-2/4-5 shift solenoid valve
4. 3-4 shift solenoid valve
5. 2-3 shift solenoid valve
6. PWM solenoid valve (torque convertor lock-up)

3 Sensors

1. RPM sensor 2
2. RPM sensor 3
3. Transmission oil temperature sensor

1 Electrical conductor plate
1 Harness connector
1 Valve unit (ETC)
1 Starter lock-out contact

Hello friends,
I am sorry because I am asking the dumb question but can anyone show me how to remove the old conductor plate on 97 s420. It also has the same transmission (722.6) and i have the same problem. My car is not sifting smoothly. Some one recommend me to change the conductor plate but i donot know how to do it and i am not good mechanic. So if someone can share some picture than it will be great help for me.

I don't have it right here but one user called G-AMG I think did one with pictures search for his name or for "conductor plate" in the search engine. Or subsribe to alldatadiy.com and you'll have a lot of infos there too

I found several DIY video for changing out the conductor plate. You can do a search here and on google and there are step by step for doing. Can purchase the parts on eBay and it will be shipped free. I also learn you can use valvoline trans fluid sold at Walmart for 17.00 per gallon. Max life. Need to have dealers or Indy that can reprogrammed codes. Hopes this helps! I have been reading lots of post and reviewing pics to learn what is involved. good luck. I also have a s 420 1997. Getting this work done tomorrow. June 29 2015.
