1995 S500 coupe brake light switch replacement

Greetings All:!
I have an issue with my ASR light being on. I have searched the threads and am of the same opinion that my brake light switch needs to be replaced .. Wonderful I have a new one. and am ready eager and willing to put it in.BUT for te life of me I can not repeat get to the thing. I have removed all the screws I can see, but cannot get the knee bolster to come loose, I cant tfeel anything like a screw and one thread suggests, or clips as another suggests. Does anyone have any experience in replacing this switch on this model? I just finished putting new brembo brake on the old girl and want to get this resolved today if I can. I can still drive it but I have to mash the pedal to get it to move and the rpm's are sky high when it shifts as well on ocassion it does work for a trip or two but the the light omes back on so i want to resolve it as to cruise at 60mph ia have to run at 3300 rom.. and gas is to expensive to waste at that.. HELP pictures please or measurements any thing.

use a thin blade (butter knife, flat screwdriver etc) and press on the tab between the dash and top of panel

well thanks for the follow up.. but I was running out of dylight and went out and just took off the plastic piece that bolts to the firewall. We never did get the bolster off. but I got a son who was smaller and younger than I to go in and he was able to reach up in there and replace the switch. unfortunately it did not fix the issue. So not sure where to go from hereguess I will have to take it in beause I dont has a tester to pull any codes and honestly. there was no OBD! connection uner the dash .. so It may have a OBD@ but I dont know whee it is not inside and not on the passente side in the engine bay.

yep with super small hands you can get in there without removing the panel. good call on getting the kid to work lol. sorry it didnt fix it but i figured i wasnt going to say this until you saw it for yourself because people tend to doubt simple fixes can't possibly work....:

the brake switch will rarely if ever trigger asr light (contrary to what many think!). it will trigger the brake light and abs light.

obd won't do anything for your issue. you need sds to see what is going on.

asr faults are caused primarily by:

1. asr module
2. speed sensor
3. throttle actuator

2 n 3 fail often.

if your car is pre 96/97 check your wiring. if something is shorting somewhere, it will cause all sorts of madness

Thanks , AI am heading to the wiring next, I havent had a chance to check the voltage with the car running but some one said if it was less than 13.5 volts could cause an issue so that is in the list as well then before i throw a bunch of parts at it i will talk it to the benz shop and have them diagnoisis of the issue..well at least the brakes work.. so 50 percent aint bad.. if i was a base ball player and not an umpire I could make millions. I ther anyway it could be the maf? just spit balling here. Thanks again

Is there any way to tell which speed sensor is or could be at fault or any way to test the throttle actuator? It is a 1995 and i have heard ther are issues with the wiring harness but when i have looked briefely i did not see any hard wire insulation or items like som pics I had seen posted here. and since it is a 95 is it a obdi and if so where in the world is the connection? I have looked all over and am not seeing it. it's not under the dash? and on the passenger side Thanks again for any help
