97 S420 CD Changer

Hi - I have a 97 S420 and when purchased new, did not get for the CD changer option. I would like to install one in the trunk and make use of the factory control buttons on the radio. Does anyone have any recommendations? Are there any aftermarket ones that will work? How much should I expect for install?

thanks

Alpine CD Changers are said to work with the propper cable connections but I am not sure.

Contact Eddie, I am sure he can find a solution for you.

Cheers.

I happen to have the Alpine changer in my car with an adapter cable. It works fine. I'll try to get you the part numbers. Come to think of it, I submitted that information a while back already. I'll do a search to see if I can find it.

This isn't 1984 anymore. Installing a CD player is almost as bad as asking for a cassette deck. They are both a complete waste of obsolete money. Get satellite radio or an MP3 player.

Control of the player through the factory radio is a big draw for me. I installed an Alpine 6 disc CHA-S634 with two adaptor harnesses, a P.I.E. MBZ-ALP and CPKCA135B Ai-NET to M-Bus, that I purchased from Logjam Electronics. Plug & play, super easy, and the sound is superb. The player reads MP3 data discs so you can put much more music on each disc.

EDIT: I just noticed that your '97 will take a different interface adaptor, but their website is very user friendly.

Hmm, so this means we should throw away our turntables and long plays at our homes too, what if the guy has a lot of CD s in his collection

Since I mentioned about collections; listen to someone like Benny Goodman on LP and listen to him again on CD, see the difference.

Cheers.

Yes you should. You could also sell them to another sucker who thinks they are still useful technology. If he has a lot of CD's in his collection, then convert them to MP3. It can be done for free and quickly. Even my 84 year old next door neighbor has converted all of her old CD's over to MP3 and thrown out all her CD's.

I never thought about it, so I take my 8track out and convert it,and the next thing is that I throw out my Boom Box at home.
I also was wondering why the people in the Gym looked at me so funny when I used the Treadmill with my Walkman.
