How to Lower the antenna with the car on.

I have a 93 400SEL with the original Stereo and Analog phone in the arm rest. Is there a way to lower the antenna with the car running? It stays up when the radio is turned off so I'm guessing it has something to do with the phone. I have none of the paperwork on the phone. It seems like there should be some way to turn it off. Any suggestions/ideas.

Thank You

Tom

Turn off the phone, and as I recall there was a lead from the phone going to the antenna. I think there might be a fuse in the trunk fuse box for the phone. The phone is located behind the drivers side trunk cladding, take the handset out and reclaim space, you can also remove the control in the eye glass bin

Peter:

I don't see an on or off button for the phone. Its probably so obvious that I'm missing it. I'm going to check for a fuse tomorrow. Thanks for all your help

You have to install a custom switch for it but it wont be easy. Ordinarily you could install the switch right behind the headunit but the same line powers the amps. The way I did it was to make a cutoff right at the antenna (wish I took pics)

I didn’t feel like prying all my sidings and interior just to lay wiring for the antenna so I instead bought a remote switch for it ($20 ebay). With the cutoff switch, the antenna default is always off. when radio is ON, antenna stays down. If I wanted the antenna up I have to press the switch to ON. And once the switch off the radio, the module resets itself to OFF. So the next time I switch the radio ON, the antenna stays DOWN.

I hope thats pretty clear. hth
