Repair Outside Rearview Mirror

Anyone had any luck repairing the springs in the outside rearview mirror? Mine's starting to "droop" a little bit - local MB-approved body shop says they all tend to do it over time - of course their recommendation is to replace the whole mirror.

The ones on the door?

What springs? They are electrical folding and use a series of gears for that. If the gears are stripped due to damage the mirror will flop and have to be replaced.

The hinge only allows forward and back movement, no side to side or up and down - so not sure what drop you are referring do.

ASFIK there are no springs in the assembly anywhere. Please correct me if im blind

vw phaeton. when vw copies mercedes, but forces you to service it next to golfs and jettas

I just had to replace mine because of this issue. I found a guy on ebay with brand new aftermarket ones, for a fairly cheap price. The build quality of the aftermarket unit is spot on with OEM. I was actually impressed with it and I normally hate aftermarket. The mirror swap takes 10-15 minutes. Its 3 screws and 2 power connections.

Hey just going by what I was told, I haven't even tried to take it apart. The "droop" is as if the mirror assembly has been knocked loose from the car, about 1/4" gap around the top of where it should mount flush with the side of the car. Starting to sound like this won't be a cheap fix no matter what.
