Well Yesterday ( Friday) was a productive day. With the assistance of Phamilton01, we (mostly he) was able to change the accumlators (aka Spheres) in the 600SEL. Just by changing the accumulators and bleeding out the lines after we purchased the HYDRAULIC fluid from the STEALERSHIP... the 600SEL went from dumptruck of a ride (very very stiff in the rear) to almost as phamiltor01 would say "bearable". Actually it was to me a NIGHT and DAY difference... the ride was greatly improved...
Along the diagnosing process we also found that the the SPS computer, along with the relays for the heated seat (yes both front and rear) and the PSE pump, along with the axle were bad..... therefore the checks have started to fly ( as i knew it would) we have ordered the sps computer, along with the pse pump, and relays... hopefully within a week we should receive them and install them.. .to achieve the ride that a 600 SEL should deliver.
I must say that without Phamilton01 help, it would not have been a productive day!!
Well that is the update On MARY.... Stay tuned for the next update... Same Bat time , Same bat channel!!!
Dont forget we changed the shocks as well....The pse pump ,heated seat relays, sps computer, and drivers axle are bad. With a couple of phone calls the parts are on the way. The car rides 300% better but the sps computer is destroyed, thus the car is default into "firm"mode . Its coming along, it will be mercedes soon...

I get a firebell "ding" sound when placing my car is reverse sometimes, may I have a bad axle?
Also Pat, What's the life of subframe bushings, I feel a lot of the road through my steering column.

As a layman I am interested in this stuff.
Question: How much time did you spend on replacing the spheres and struts?
I know how it's done and I estimate that you spent between 4-5 hours from raising the rear of the car to the final replacement of the hydraulic fluid and checking it all out.
Did you replace the filter in the hydraulic fluid reservoir? Did you have any problems removing the lines to the spheres and struts?
I should know this but I have forgotten (a senior moment) but what is a PSE pump and where is it located? And what is an SPS computer and where is it located?
Sounds like you had a lot of fun doing the SLS. Congratulations!
Brett,
Sps is the suspension computer, When i scanned the car with the HHt is wouldnt let me in the sps computer, after pulling the computer i found that it had gotton wet and destroyed the computer. The suspension switch on the dash controls that computer. When that fails it locks the car into "firm" mode. Thus the car riding nice but not like it should. All the other systems with exception of pse passed with fying colors! I was happy to see that. Pse pump was destroyed by the same water issue. Under the the rear seat houses the heated seat relays, sps computer, pse pump, headrest relay, and a lateral sensor. Only things untouched buy the water were the headrest and lateral sensor.
Andrew,
The subframe bushings are probably requiring some attention. The bushings on the 600sel will be replaced soon. They are showing signs of wear. As far as the noise your hearing when put in reverse, because you have replaced all the flex disks the only thing left could be a axle shaft. Unless you have a diff issue. I highly doubt that. Do a visual inspection of the boots, make sure theres no tears or damage. If you find tears of any kind you probably have dirt and grime that has cause wear giving you some slop. These parts do wear but tore boots speed that up.
Well actually replacing all the rear suspension parts only too approx 2 hours. The rear shocks, accu, and bleeding. The filter was cleaned prior to filling to find it perfecly clean, YAY!!! I did have a issue with the pass side strut line. Had to break out the torch to loosen it up.....But other than that it went very smooth.

How do i bleed out the rear? I have already replaced my rear sls shocks and i think it is time for the spheres for me as well... they still ride really rough.

after you replace the spheres its a very simple procedure. You disconnect the arm from the sls valve that is connected to the suspension arm, and move the arm from full down to full up. If you have someone in the front ,you will watch the fluid raise and lower according to valve position. The car is still on stands at this time. Very simple.
What does "SPS" stand for? I hope the computer does it, and it's not some other sensor failure that has defaulted the system.
Brett
PML = Speed-sensitive Power Steering or "SPS"
I just bought and swapped a used PML/SPS module with my non-responsive one and it fixed my steering problems with no other problems. The steering is like butter now. Hope it works for you too.
What exactly is "firm mode"? Besides the steering, what else does "firm mode" effect?
