Pardon me if this has already been covered, but are there any Mercedes Benz final production numbers available for the W140 bodystyle? By year, body type, engine configuration, etc?
I read somewhere that the 1999 model year saw only 14 Sedans and 15 Coupes outfitted with the 12-cylinder motor produced/sold. Anything on any other year?
If you know a little bit of german language than you should check this link out "http://www.mb-w140.de/".
I think you'll find what are you looking for under the "Produktionszahlen" link there.
Also there are loads of interesting things there... hope you enjoy...
run it through google translator, its faster than learning german. i couldnt find anything on how many were made in my color combo though. thanks for the link, very cool. if you want to see how your mb was equipped you can match the 3-digit codes off the radiator badge with the codes in the "equipment codes" link.
That site is very helpful, although I wish we had more information as to how many 140s did the US receive broken down into years and models like the one in that website linked above.
Here you go Strykerrrrrrrrrrrrr .
Best i could find for you but i think there is a better one hovering around on this forum somewere hidden in a post,i know because i have seen it , but this one is still almost the same .Dont forget the W140 Buyers guide, there is a lot in there as well ,it could even be inside there (i havn't check't it). Mercedes-Benz S-Class W140 Series
But the reality is so few people in the 'real world' have no idea what our cars are all about. What a pity!
Took a 3-hour drive yesterday with four people in the car, two of whom are 'car guys'. They couldn't get over the ride, the space, the quality, the appointments. Like they've never seen one of our cars before!
Their reaction only reinforces my opinion that our cars will not be replicated anytime soon.
Stryker you might like this info unless you already seen it .I copied the text here just in case that link gets deleted .
The original link of this post is at the bottom.
There are more than 139 S600 in USA.....
1992 ¡V 1999 W140/C140
USA Imported Numbers
1992
300SD ¡V 1,131
300SE ¡V 4,774
400SE - ???? <---- If would be greatly appreciated if any one knows the #
We didn't get the SWB versions of the W140 with any other engine than the six-cylinder for any model year. I think there are a few 400SE's around though, mostly that have been brought down from Canada, but none actually sold in the USA.
MB didn't start supplying the US market with 220-body S-classes until MY2000. In order to give their US dealers S-classes to sell in 1999, MB took the last few w140's of the 1998 production run and badged them 1999's for the US market. They also created the S500 Grand Edition for the same reason. Since this marketing ploy was successful, MB has done this with other end-of-production runs for other models, labeling them 'Special Editions' or something else like that.
Technically, you are correct, that the 1999's were produced in 1998.
FYI, if you are buying aftermarket parts and you own a 98(me have one) or a 99. The parts brokers will say "from October 98" or " to October 98"...
Understand it needs to be " TO October 98??" for parts... The big confusion is on suspension parts if you do not know what they look like...
