Help! My S500 W140 suddenly stopped working the windows up/down and opening the sunroof from the switches or the remote. Even the mirror adjust stopped working from the switch on the console but when the door is open and the seat memory is pressed the mirrors move to the designated position. It's weird. The fuses are fine - checked 'em all. Is there another relay or a solution someone knows of?
I had this problem once. The control box is in the trunk on the right rear fender/ panel. Didn't need to replace the box, cause the the wiring was loose. I have a 99 420.Yours might be someplace else.
500s and 600s have a design defect, where the engines are so hot, they ultimately melt the wiring harness causing electrical difficulties. Its a common problem ive heard... if it hasnt been replaced since manufacture, that might be a good place to start.
I feel the problem is not as severe as requiring the wiring harness to be replaced. I think I caused the problem when I locked the doors and closed the sunroof using the remote control. Right after that the windows and sunroof would not operate from the switches even though the fuses are fine. I am sure I have tripped a relay somewhere.
Well... you never answered the question. Has your wiring harness been replaced or not? This was a design defect on all W140 made between 1991 and mid 1996 depending on the market. Replacement is not an option, rather a requirement.
