W140 S600 v. W220 S55 AMG/S600

Between the three most exclusive, and reasonably (lol) affordable S Classes made in the last ten years, what would you rather have and why? Which would you recommend based on their reliability reputations?

For me, I'd probably just go with the W140 S600. It's probably gonna be more reliable and cheaper to own than either of the W220s, and it's better looking inside and out, and the naturally aspirated 6.0L V-12 is gonna be more than enough power for me. Having 469 hp would just be insane!

469 HP? It makes 405 or something like that I thought. I would take one of the W220's just for the rocketship capabilities.

the S55 made 493, i think ur getting the 469 from the E55
and just like ur name "W14FTW"
the W140 just owns the road!!

umm the new W220 interior is actually quite refined...

but just make sure on the s550 you get the premium leather

Didnt you ask this in the W220 section?

While I do have a soft spot for the W140, I just cant say no to an AMG. Albeit ill pass on the pre-facelifts since theyre lacking FI, but 2003 onwards, my god I love them

I pick the S55 AMG because of its power advantage over stock W140's, and IMO has the most effective powerplant of the bunch.

Traction control and automatic transmission seems be limiting the capabilities of a V12 TT. Not to say it doesnt affect the SC V8, but its much more limiting to the S600 making the V12TT engine look like an overkill.

And while a Bi-Turbo V12 is nice, 5.5L is baloney! Not to mention being SOHC with 3 valves per cylinder, it sounds kinda weenie to the M120(turbos aside).

So for me: S55>w140 S600>w220 S600

Say, why isnt the S65 AMG on the list?

The #1 reason why you should be a proud W140 Owner
How many hidden talents does a W140 have? Too many to be exact.

In my opinion not that anyone asked but its not HP that matters its Torque first, how fast you can get from one gear to the next from 0-60 then comes HP.The w140 v-12 feels like a rocket because of the big torque it has when you put your foot in it. HP is not a big factor to us in the USA because of speedlimits and roads unless you are on a track.The w140 v8 is no turtle with the rite performance mods you can gain from stock HP 315 and torque 347 to Hp 345 and torque 372

Like I've always said - regardless of what speed I'm going and how fast I got there - when the day comes that I end up driving into something accidentally, I would preferring to be driving 'through' it than become 'one' with it - give me the W140 (of any engine size) any day

let me understands this...if you had a choice to have a 140 320 or a 221 S65 or 220 s600 or even an SLR you would take the 320?

There is no W220 S550, thats the W221. The w220 interior is ok, it feels more cramped than the W140 and IMO the materials are also of a lower quality than the W140.
