So I usually just roll down the windows to stay cool and it saves gas to not run the a/c but today was especially hot. I noticed that when I turn the a/c there is a rush of air that comes out of the vents, then the airflow dies down quite a bit, and then if I turn off the a/c entirely there is another big rush of air through the vents. What's going on with my car?? the a/c is hardly blowing after the initial burst of air through the vents. I would like my a/c to work so any help is appreciated
This link has a great article on the operation and diagnosing of the AC blower motor. I'm not sure why you get the big air blast when starting and stopping the AC but the low air flow sounds like it could be the regulator - very common problem and not too hard to repair.
Hello the Great Salt Lake. Unlike the 100 cubed (100 degrees f, 100 percent humidity, 100 days) part of the US, it is understandable why you would prefer the open air. Sounds suspiciously like the regulator to me as well. Both 140s here have had their regulators replaced and your symptoms sound similar. There is a write up on this forum about replacing the regulator, just do a search. Dead simple: make the hood vertical, remove the jillion little screws holding the rear plastic panel in place (torx, if memory serves); unplug some stuff and take off the cover and there it is on the passenger side of the engine compartment under the filter. Good time to replace the filter, too. Good time to lubricate the fan motor, as well. Some here have suggested that the typically underserviced and filthy clogged filters contribute to the regulator failure.
Sounds more like a flap problem to me. If you get a big rush of air at times, that indicates to me that the blower motor is working. I would bet you have a vacuum leak somewhere causing the flaps to not open properly. Do a search on flap tests. Or, maybe your pollen filter is completely clogged. Does the air stream blow much harder when in recirc mode? If so, your pollen filter is clogged.
