Sun sensor faulty

Is the sun sensor hard to replace? - does it just pop out and plug into a harness? Is it a frequently failing part? I know it doesn't really do much except vary the blower speed a little bit since I have a fault code for it I am curious about how to replace it. Thanks

Whats the sun sensor? Are you sure your not talking about the fan speed regulator?

It is on the dash in the middle right next to windshield it senses heat (from the sun) and varies the blower speed to compensate for increased air temp above dash. think it was a 1995 and later sensor. just another MB example of over engineering - really doesn't do much except speed up the fan instead of waiting for the inside temp sensor to sense temp and adjust the fan speed. It shows up frequently as a fault code when testing for AC codes.

It is very easy to replace (the sun sensor). Just pop up, unplug and replace. You have to later reset the codes at the A/C.

The sun sensor tends to fail often in some 140s, in others it works fine forever. It is just luck.
