First post. Well, there goes my "Lurker" status. Anyway, I have a 98 S420.
1) I need three items. Console woodgrain. Not sure if a 96 is the same. Mine is one piece all the way up to where the console meets the dash.
2) I need the little plastic cover that fits between the mirror and the windshield. Here's a pic:
3) I need whatever the heck used to be attached to the rear window. Not sure what its purpose was. My key fob remote does not work. Related?
1) console wood is broken, as mentioned above more few times.
2) the interior is black, you probably want to get that peice new from the dealer, becuase once you take it off once, the tab that keeps in place gets weakened or broke, the one in my personal W140 is super glued.
P.S. if you end up using super glue, use krazy gel so you dont drop, and use only enough to hold it in place, just in case you need to take it off later on.
3) nothing goes there, clean the glass, and your remote not working is a separate problem.
start by testing the battery and your remote, push the unlock button, and hold it down for few seconds while looking at the red window (emitter) a red LED should come on for a sec or so, indicating a good battery, if not, replace the 2 battery with CR2032 or 2025 batteries (depending on your remote model.
