The rear windows sun shade is refusing to go down. I did some pushes on the side supports and pulls up and down to the roler and it come down one time. I was carfull not to raise it to the maximum limits. however, I did forget one time and reaise up maximum so quickly and now it is refusing to come down. I can hear the motor running. I wish some one supply a digram and a repair steps. My car is S320L 98 model.

Hope this will be of assistance. The gearbox and motor are not difficult to access. But, they do take patience and a little time. Hope these will be of assistance.
Keep in mind that the lubricant in the gear mechanism becomes more of a sludge, although small... it curtails the smaller supports drive gears from pulling both inward and allow lowering of the shade. This is why having aN assistant on each side can allow lowering in this case sometimes.
Following refers to back window rear shelf picture below. I also included a small schematic of the electrical if it is needed.

Screw (5) in first aid box compartment

Reinstall
in opposite order.

I experienced this problem yesterday. I did not hear motor running when I pressed the switch to lower the rear shade. Mind you I am at the driver seat and may be too far away to hear whether the motor is running or not in the rear deck. The last time this rear shade works properly is when I raised it after a car wash. Now the switch will not control the movement of the rear shade. It is staying all the way up.
I should check if a fuse has blown but not sure where to look for the fuse that is associated with the rear shade mechanism. If anyone can tell me where to check for the fuse, that will be great. Mine is a 99 S500.
I hope it is not the motor or the pump(?) that has gone bad. The whole mechanism may need to be lubricate as this car is driven only on weekend for short trips.
Any ddeas what and where else should I check before I head off to the stealer for being butcher?

Mine has it's days where it will make noise and others where it will not. You will need to get someone to help you move it up and down a couple of times and if you have no success or still don't hear any noises, then follow the diagram above and give it a clean out.
Mine is completely dead when I pressed on the switch. I will give the rear shade a few shake tonight to see if it make any difference. Location of the fuse is helpful if anyone can let me know where to look. Thanks.
Fuses check out fine. Try wriggling the two metal arms that move the sun shade up and down without success. Need to remove the rear hat rack to get to check out whats underneath.
How do I remove the upper back seat to get to screw #1 and #2 (please refer to post#2's diagram)? No problem finding #5. Is this a complex procedure or just pull the seat away with force? Don't want to do something stupid and ruin the leather or anchor points for the seat. Please give me some advise or a procedure to remove the back seat. Thanks.
