Mine appeared to be stuck in up position, I went by my mechanic's shop to show him and when I pushed the switch down it went, its working fine. Maybe the switch was being temperamental who knows.
Hope this will be of assistance. The gearbox and motor are not difficult to access. But, they do take patience and a little time. Hope these will be of assistance.
Keep in mind that the lubricant in the gear mechanism becomes more of a sludge, although small... it curtails the smaller supports drive gears from pulling both inward and allow lowering of the shade. This is why having aN assistant on each side can allow lowering in this case sometimes.
Following refers to back window rear shelf picture below. I also included a small schematic of the electrical if it is needed.

I have a '97 S320 and the rear sunshade is will not release and do down. Is there a fuse I can locate and check? Also, everyone asks about removing the rear seats to get to screws #1 and #2. Is that necessary?
