I was wondering if any of you guys and or gals could tell me where the car horns are located on our W140’s…and if the location of the horns differs from year to year (ex: 1992, 1993, 1998, 1999 and etc) also if the location differs from model to model (ex: S320, S420, S500 S600 and etc)? Note, I did locate one horn behind the front passenger headlight note sure what this horn is… is it the alarm horn?
Reason why I’m asking is because I’ve only had my 1999 S500 for five months so the location of things on the car are still new to me… with that being said I wanted to change/replace the horns on the vehicle including the alarm horn to Hella Supertone horns from Germany…these horns are constructed with black painted metal body, a red protective grille and a bracket for screw-mounting (300Hz Low Tone/500Hz High Tone).

The 92 to 95 horns are behind the bumper under the headlamps, if you take off the shield you can see them. The alarm is next to the radiator I think. It is a little crowded up there, I replaced a OEM with an OEM I have heard it is easier to remove the bumper, four bolts two in the grille with rubber bumpers, two in the lower panels covered in the vents. The bumper is held on the sides by a slide in bracket. It looks like a three handed job, maybe someone has done it.

I would be interested in anyone's experience with bumper removal, I'm going to do mine shortly

All US spec cars came with an alarm in them, mine didn't so I guess it might be an Asia spec thing, from what I hear in SIngapore atleast the punishment for dealing to someones car on the street is pretty high so alot were not fitted as there was no need.

I haven't noticed anything on mine - but then it didn't come with remote - what are some of the tell tale features if you have one - do you know? (aside from the extra horns I guess)

Yup the door lock switch on the dash, if there is a little light in that like the rear window demister when it is on then the car has an alarm. I think it flashes when activated also try your vin in the Russian site:
