How often do you service your car?

Hi guys,

Just need some advice on when I should service my 500SEL. I had it serviced nearly six months ago and it was huge service as the speedo hit 300,000kms.

I'm sure like most of you, I drive it only on the weekends, so the mileage doesn't rise very quickly and plus, I don't drive it very hard at all.

Should I service it every six months? Or should I wait until I hit the 310,000km mark?

Thanks!

I service every 10,000km's or 6 months whichever comes first, and all that consists of is an oil and filter change plus whatever else might need doing plugs etc.

Suprisingly not too bad yet, we had 16' in Dunedin today which might be cold for you but it's pretty warm for May here.

The recommended service interval on all three of the W140s that I have owned is 9000 miles or at least once every year. I used to stick with that religiously but given that two of the three cars had/have MB Assyst which indicates when the car needs servicing I have found that my S500L needs servicing about every thirteen thousand miles . Given that I do about 2,000 motorway miles per month that is every six months or so but I then stick to the recommended service schedule in terms of oil and filter changes, brake fluid, air-con filters etc.

The reality is, that the car`s need will be dependent on it`s use and if you only drive the car at the weekends then I would follow the recommended schedule.

Just a point but I think these cars benefit from a regular workout and are more likely to develop niggles when they are left to stand unused.

Mine is a daily driver and accumulates 30k's/year

*I do my oil change every 5000 km
*spark plugs should be done every 48000 km
*Tranny service every 30k for the old type and every 60k for the new style tranny
*coolant drain and refill once every 2 yrs (MB coolant 50/50 mixed w/ distilled water)
*fuel filter once a year
*then brakes, tires, ball joints, air filters, etc as necessary
*Inspect the body carefully and have a body shop attend to small paint bubbles (early rust) as they pop up
*Brake fluid should be done once every 2 yrs, although I have never done it (don't know how to do it properly)
