New speaker sound

I just got my 1992 300SE out of storage. Everything seems to be working ok until I tried to use the speaker fader rotary switch in the center console. It fades the speakers from front to back. Anyway, as soon as I rotated the switch toward the rear speakers I got this loud, obnoxious, constant noise. When I rotated the switch back to the center position, it goes away. All speakers work fine. Any ideas as to why this is happening? I had the BOSE amp rebuilt last year so I think I'm ok there. It does it in all modes (radio, cassette, and CD changer).

Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Eric

Try some anti-static switch cleaner on it like Ambersil ( not too much ) as these multi direction switch can suffer from oxidization if not in regular use , ps I also get I got this loud, obnoxious, constant noise when I tune into country and western stations on my radio

Oxidization/corrosion for sure - DJ-ZIPPY, I would have thought that this would be likely to occur around the base of the pot?
