W140 Normal Running Temp

Can any of you guys please tell me what is your normal running temp on ure S class? Mine is an Inline 3.2

I just got it serviced and radiator was replaced. Now when i stop at a stop light, the temp guage goes up to 100 from around 80 and then when the car starts moving, the it goes down. Is this normal?

Before i had the radiator replaced, the normal temp always was around 80.

Please Help.

something is strange, all 3 S class's i have the pleasure to drive sit in the same place on the temp gauge. Arond 80'ish, always above it though once its warmed up but not way too much over 80 either or you have something wrong.

Maybe the fan clutch is going out/slipping and when sitting still the fan isn't pull in enough air to properly cool?

Thats what I think too.
My ex. E39 had that problem. I replaced the fan clutch and the problem was gone.

If you ignor this problem and keeps using the car with a bad fan clutch the clutch eventually gets stuck on the axel and the fan may explode due to high rpm. (own experience)

Sounds a little strange - that it would move around that much, that quickly. First thing to do with ususual engine temps is to replace the radiator/overflow tank cap, because a bad seal can be the problem, and it costs about $5.

I own a 1993 300SE, w/ a M104 engine. I've found to be normal the operating temperatures at about a 90 degree F outside temperature for it to: range from 90-100 degrees C. It was breaking the 100 mark recently so I changed the thermostat and it leveled out to just under 100 mark. However, when driving it will be about 90 and when stopped, say at a light, inches up to about 100, especially when it is hot outside. FYI.

mine sites constatly on 98-ish (just below 100 mark) and when on motorway it little less (around 95)
i have recently replaced radiator and did coolant flush...and so far its just the same.
I dont see a problem with bellow 98 and my fan clutch and aux fans work just fine (clutch engages when car is hot and so do the aux fans)

i payed close attention today while driving to the engine temp. Its normally halfway between 80 and 100 at a steady 90 or so. When sitting at a light it inched near 100 but never passed it nor was on it. If the temp is normally at around 100 esspecially while moving then you have a problem

Would a new Cooling harness fix the job?
Found this on the web and sounds pretty interesting. This may be the answer to your problems.....
