i dont think i have a problem, (refer to your car manual) and all mercs i had were just a same, also i had thermostat problem with my 230E and temperature was constanly around 80C which is very bad for the engine as the wear is much higher and if you know much about engines theory is higher the temperature more power the engine generates (again if the temp goes too high it will cause detonation) so idea is to keep it in balance thats exactly what around 95-ish is...

I do get variation, if I'm stuck in traffic it's at about 90'C up north over the summer sometimes a little above but on the open road it's always always at 80'C or like today even lower. I thought it was pretty normal, the I6 may even run a little cooler than the V8 due to the extra space in the engine bay.
I brought this issue up before as I do get higher temps like around 100 with the ac on, in traffic at summer time. The normal operating temp Mercedes intended for this car is either 80 or 87, depending on what model you have. I have an 80 degrees thermostat and on the highway it sits right on 80. This tells me I have a working cooling system at highspeeds. If your temp is even 5 degrees higher then what your thermostat is on the highway then there is something wrong, gauge, thermostat, radiator, but it should be right on what the thermostat is marked, on the highway, since your getting maximum cooling. What im getting to is 80 is not very very bad for the engine, its where Mercedes wants it to be.
They were also selective and felt that the s420 and s500 get an 80 degree thermostat and the s320 and s600 an 87 degrees thermostat. So they wanted their 8 cyl engine to be 7 degrees cooler then the 6 or 12cyl. This is for a good reason, otherwise they would have just made 87 thru out the models, they didn't and they wanted it at 80.
Also from experience the only time my temp went above 100 was in the summer with a broken fan clutch, once that was installed it went back down to 95 or so in traffic not highspeeds. I also took high pressured air and blew out my radiator and condenser from inside out, lots of dust came out and was running a bit more cooler. I also tested the car without the fan shroud and the temp went higher again, the fan shroud is very important as it tunnels the air into a narrow stream right onto the engine.
One more thing my fan clutch failed after I let the car sit for over 2 months with very little starting, thanks to pcmahers website and help I was able to change it out with little down time.
Can any of you guys please tell me what is your normal running temp on ure S class? Mine is an Inline 3.2
I just got it serviced and radiator was replaced. Now when i stop at a stop light, the temp guage goes up to 100 from around 80 and then when the car starts moving, the it goes down. Is this normal?
Before i had the radiator replaced, the normal temp always was around 80.
Please Help.
Also in regards to the original post, your model should never sit at 80 since the 320 has an 87 degree thermostat, not sure but possibly you had the wrong one installed allowing you to be at 80 and during your service they installed the correct one (87) giving you the higher difference.

+1 on this.
I would check back with the shop that replaced the radiator and see if they replaced the thermostat with the correct 87 degree one as mentioned. that would be the first step. This might explain the sudden jump in the temp guage. good luck
I own a 1993 300SE, w/ a M104 engine. I've found to be normal the operating temperatures at about a 90 degree F outside temperature for it to: range from 90-100 degrees C. It was breaking the 100 mark recently so I changed the thermostat and it leveled out to just under 100 mark. However, when driving it will be about 90 and when stopped, say at a light, inches up to about 100, especially when it is hot outside. FYI.
ditto,,, same here...
