Is it safe to use "Lucas-Fuel Injection Cleaner"?

Howdy folks,

I was just wondering if it is ok to use this type of aditive on a '92 400SE with 75,000 miles. Everything is ok with car, I was just wanted to make sure that it was ok to use..........or not.

Thank you.

I like Lucas products...

If you have already bought it - haven't tried it but thei Lucas Oil Stabilzer is great...

The most often used injector cleaners are Techron (large bottle) and also the most highly recommended BK 44K (not cheap but a wonder drug for injectors).

If it was me - go for the BG 44K

Mercedes recommends use of Techron, or their own branded fuel additive. They don't recommend *any* use of *any* oil wizard/cleaner/addtive/stabilzer product, and in fact in their manuals explicitly recommend against it.

Yeah, my dealer put a bottle of Chevron Techron into my last Benz at the 120K B service. I didn't know they had a branded one, but I think I'll ask the next time I'm in for something.

Mercedes part no A000 989 25 45 12
or
Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner

I think our local dealer switch to the MB product from some bardahl product based on the realization pricing was better on their product versus what the auto supply house was giving them.

So, do I have anything to worry about if I went ahead and used the Lucas brand?? I figured since it was safe to use Lucas oil on Mercedes it was safe to use the fuel injection cleaner??

I did not read your responce until after the fact............................I also spoke with a mechanic that worked for MB that said it would be ok.

Just wondering

Well the lucas fuel cleaner can't hurt I guess, not the optimal choice according to mercedes, but the Lucas oil stablizer should go, written instructions from mercedes engineers saying NO don't do that.

While I do appreciate the differences in our engines and the potential requirements of each...

I have used Lucas FI cleaner on my W126 V8 and while it doesn't stand out more than any other FI cleaner, it sure hasn't appeared to have done any damage
It did it's job and I'd be happy to use it again

I also agree that the Lucas Oil Stabilizer product is good

It doesn't have a name...it's just a car

What about?

I went looking for Techron injector cleaner here in NZ and found none, though they do put Techron in the petrol at Caltex stations.

My Question is: would STP or Wynns (for those of us in Aus and NZ) injector cleaner be OK in my 93 600 SEL?

Cheers

I would not use STP products in any of my cars, but that is only an un-educated personal opinion. I know nothing about Wynns products.

We have some rubbish in the US named GumOut too, and there are a lot more additives available than have been discussed here so far.

If you choose to believe your owner's manual, M-B says to use no gasoline additives of any kind. I think they are probably correct if you use only good (aka brand-name) fuel and change the fuel filter at the recommended intervals.
