for the W140 models, for the sunroof, i realize that there is a cover for it (when it's closed) so that the sunlight dont go into the car from the top. The newer cars usually allow you to have the option of whether you want to retract this cover, or leave the glass there (but sunroof closed) so that you can allow the light to come through.
Does the W140 come with this glass also? I like to have the sunlight shine into the car and so i'd probbaly retract that cover if there is....from what i see from pictures, it seems like the cover would only retract if i was to open the sunroof? I would really like just leave the glass visible but sunroof closed.
Do you guys know what i mean? i'm not the best at describing things...

Nah, you aren't so bad.
It sounds like you're just wondering whether the W140 has a moonroof or a sunroof. A moonroof is a sliding glass panel with a manually retractable cover, and the W140 does have a moonroof. When it's closed, you can still look up and see the sky.

Depends on the year, however alot of early ones were replaced under a warranty.
hmm....i have a 91...so i HOPE they have it...if not, i may need to get this replaced....doubt i will have warranty tho...how much would THAT cost to replace?

i was out in my w140 the other day wondering the SAME exact thing. im pretty sure mine doesnt have any glass...there is no way to retract the cover and it doesn't explain how to in the manual.
Something to do with the railings I think and by the time they came to replace alot of them the glass roof was the type being used in the W140 so they just adapted it over I think the owner got a good deal on the parts or labour when they did that or something.
If you have a metal roof, the shade slides with it, with the glass roof it has a grille in it, and can can move with the glass or manually.
It seems it was an option and then became standard. The 92 Service manual shows 3.5 hrs to retro and required the glass, 4 brackets, 2 bellows, a trim cover, and a color matched headliner panel. It appears the headliner is removed, the metal, and sliding panel are tossed, new brakets are installed, glass is installed with bellows, they show a special tool, modified vise grip. I probably helps to have the donor car. The parts list shows a different seal with metal and glass, but in the instructions there is no mention of it.
The service bulletin says retrofit "at owners expense"
